California Proposition 65 Warning
What Proposition 65 is
California’s Proposition 65 obliges a business to warn a customer before an exposure to a substance the state has placed on its published list, which covers cancer and reproductive harm. The rule is about disclosure, not prohibition, and it follows any goods sold into California.
Where a warning may apply to products like these
Seals, coatings, plated fittings, flexible cords and the solder on small circuit boards can contain listed substances at low levels. That is true of a great many consumer goods, not only this category. Where a warning applies to an item sold here, it appears on the product page and on the packaging with the item.
What we do not claim
We do not state an exposure level, we do not claim a safe-harbour conclusion, and we do not publish a test result we do not hold. A warning line is not an admission that an item is unsafe; it is the disclosure the state requires.
Operator confirmation
The exact warning wording and the list of substances that applies to each product must be confirmed by the operator before this store accepts live orders. Until that confirmation exists, no product page names a specific chemical or a specific exposure threshold.
Where the warning appears
Where a warning is required, it is shown in the specification area of the product page, on the enclosed card, and on the outer packaging as the rule requires. If a product page carries no warning line, no warning was required for that item by the information available to us.
More information
The California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment publishes the chemical list and explains the warning requirements in full. That source describes the law, while this page describes how the store handles it.
